Second Life is a three dimensional online environment where users develop an avatar and build gestures and objects to operate within the environment. It is only available to adults learners. The educational value of this environment needs to be questioned and examined before it can be effectively implemented as a learning tool. What is the environment, what are the promises and perils and where potential exists will be discussed.

Walter has been pioneering the use of educational technology for over 30 years. He is currently working on connecting the work of Curriculum and Information Technology within the Calgary Board of Education.

Joanne Adomeit
Joanne joined the staff of CBe-learn last year after a career that includes classroom teaching and curriculum specialist. Her interest in technology includes authoring, reviewing and in-servicing the teachers about The Learning Equation math program as well as extensive work on authentic assessment.
