This session will review the Calgary Board of Education’s model for online professional development. The what, why, and how of technology’s role in pedagogy and andragogy is at the core of e-PD as it relates to best practice and student achievement. Initial research findings as to this model’s effectiveness will be shared.

Karen Pegler is a specialist at Innovative Learning Services where she manages,designs and facilitates online professional development courses. Her background includes teaching senior high English in both face2face and blended environments. She is finishing her Masters in Ed Tech at the U of C. Karen has become a strong advocate for distributed learning environments after witnessing the transformational power of the approach for teachers and students alike.
 
Maria Spagnolo is a consultant with Innovative Learning Services with the CBE. Maria’s work encompasses ILS communications, e-PD and other areas of technology integration into the classroom and teacher professional learning. Maria is currently completing her Masters of Leadership Education with Gonzaga University in Washington and continues to research and help develop effective online professional development for CBE staff.
