Athabasca University is presently engaged in a project to assess the various learning needs and interests in work camps, remote workplaces, and Aboriginal communities in Alberta’s north. The audiences, content, design, delivery, support models, technologies, and results of the project obtained so far will be described.

Pat Fahy has taught high school and adult education, in programs from basic literacy to graduate levels, spent five years in the private sector, and has done private consulting. Presently, he teaches educational technology courses in Athabasca University’s Centre for Distance Education, manages the Advanced Graduate Diploma in Distance Education (Technology), and coordinates the annual Distance Education Technology Symposium DETS). Nancy Steel has 20 years of experience providing a variety of education services to business and labour organizations, including the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees, Imperial Oil, Syncrude Canada, Husky Oil, BC Hydro, and the Communications, Energy & Paperworkers Union.
