We will share the challenges and advantages involved in the Lethbridge College Blended Learning Project where multimedia practicum students and instructors came together to redesign courses for blended or online delivery. This is an application of the cognitive apprenticeship model—with a twist—as masters and apprentices change roles in defining processes and creating learning content.

Karen Harker is a Curriculum and Instruction Consultant in the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Innovation at Lethbridge Community College. She has Bachelor of Education and Masters of Education degrees with a focus on adult learning and has many years experience teaching at LC. One of the primary roles in her current position is to work with faculty to design, develop, and facilitate web enhanced, blended and online courses. Clayton Snyder currently works in the Centre for Teaching, Learning, and Innovation at Lethbridge Community College. As an instructional designer involved with a student creative think and do tank, Clayton integrates mixed-media with course content to enhance student / instructor interaction. He is a Masters student with the University of Alberta’s Masters of Arts in Communication and Technology program focusing on technology in post-secondary education. Leanne Elias (B.F.A., M.Ed.) is Program Leader and Instructor for Multimedia Production at Lethbridge College, and is also Development Chair for Applied Research in IT and New Media for Alberta College and Technical Institutes (AACTI). She carries her strong interest in New Media Curriculum Design into associations with Industry professionals, working as a board member for the Digital Media Association of Alberta.Rebecca Mercer and Tyler Wall are Media Specialists working in the Educational Enhancement Team at Lethbridge College. They are both graduates of the Multimedia Production Program and have been working with the team since September, 2006.
