2009 CNIE International Conference Call for Abstracts

The Canadian Network for Innovation in Education (CNIE) is hosting an international conference in 2009 entitled: Learning and Technology: A Capital Idea!

The Conference Program Planning Committee invites submissions which will enable participants to investigate, evaluate and connect with current trends and new developments in the integration of learning and technology
 
Who Should Submit?
This is an international conference. Submissions are strongly encouraged from individuals and groups working in education, healthcare, training, business, industry, government, and military at all levels, including K-12, post-secondary, and adult education and/or training. Students' submissions in all formats are very welcome.
 
Conference Session Formats
Presentations: Presentations by one or more presenters may be 30 minutes or 60 minutes in length, including time for audience questions (20 min. presentation with 10 min. for questions or 45-50 min. presentation with 10-15 min. for questions).
 
Panel Discussions: Panel discussions must be 60 minutes in length, including time for audience questions (45-50 min. presentation with 10-15 min. for questions). All panel presentations should include 3 to 6 panelists.
 
Facilitated Discussions: Facilitated discussions focus on audience participation and are 60 minutes in length. They may have one or more facilitators but should be limited to a single topic.
 
Poster Presentations: Poster presentations will be available for viewing throughout the conference; however, the presenter(s) need only be available during predetermined times. Guidelines for creating a poster presentation and information on space requirements are available below.
All submissions must address the Conference theme, "Learning and Technology: A Capital Idea!", and one of the conference streams.

1)      Building Effective Learning Environments: Innovations in Instructional Design and Course Development
2)      The Prescription for Learning: Integrating Educational Technology into the Health System
3)      Breaking Learning Barriers: New Technology and Media Applications to Create Accessible Learning
4)      K to 12 Innovation: Engaging the Digital Learner
5)      Transforming Education: Constructing a Student Centred World with Open Learning and Distance Education
6)      Leading the Way: Effective Policies, Partnerships and Administrative Practices
 
Presentations, Panel Discussions, Facilitated Discussions and Poster Presentations are invited for all of the above streams.
 
Poster Presentations:
Poster presentations provide an opportunity to share innovative ideas and new applications of
educational technology and distance and distributed learning. They may present a report of a
research study, an analysis of a practical problem-solving effort, a description of an international
project, or the description of an innovative program that relates to the conference streams.
 
Posters should be approx. 3ft(w) x 5ft (l) and will be displayed on free standing easels (easels to be provided). Presenters are responsible for producing all materials for the poster display. Designated times will be determined during the convention for poster presentations
 
Languages Used
The Conference Program Committee welcomes submissions in English and French. Abstracts should be submitted in the language of presentation.

Abstract Selection Criteria
Abstracts will be evaluated by the Abstract Review Committee based on the following criteria:
Quality of content: evidence-based, quality of intent, spelling & grammar, length within the word limit, appropriateness of objectives;
Application to conference audience;
Clarity: quality of writing, logical transition from beginning to end, title links to body, no need to read several times;
Innovation: adaptation, new creative approach, thinking out of the box, critical thinking, inter-sectoral, interdisciplinary, lessons learned, incorporates technology in practice; and
Relevance to stream: Did the submission describe how the proposed topic fits with the theme and/or by-line.
 
Abstract Submission Guidelines
All abstracts should be submitted using the online "Submission" form. The online submission process will be available by October 8, 2008. 
 
Abstracts should be prepared and submitted using the following guidelines:
Abstracts may be submitted in English or French
Abstracts should be prepared using a word processing or text editing program, such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Note Pad, Word Perfect etc...
Abstracts should be no more that 250 words max., not counting title, author name(s) or author(s) contact information.
Abstract submissions must identify the stream and presentation type
Abstract titles should be brief and reflect the content of the abstract
Abstracts should include:
o       Introduction
o       Description of activities or research method
o       Outcome, results or lessons learned
o       Conclusion and recommendations
 
Please note that all presenters are required to register and pay conference fees and all other costs no later than February 27, 2009.
